The Pros and Cons of Real Estate Teams

If you're a new real estate agent, going solo may seem like a dream, but there are pitfalls you may have yet to consider. On the other hand, if you're an experienced realtor, you likely understand the dynamics of being on a team and what makes a particular one a good fit. In today's real estate world, being part of a team can offer advantages you may not have considered.

In the latest episode of The Art of Agency podcast, Jonathan and Mallory delve into the pros and cons of real estate teams. They share their insights on questions to ask during team interviews, why your first question should never be about money, and how teams can provide accountability. Considering your options, whether you're a new agent or an experienced professional, is important.

  • Money shouldn’t be the driver for joining a real estate team. Ask questions about the culture of the office. Where do the leads come from? Do your research on the team and ask questions about that instead.

  • Know the differences between a team and a brokerage. If you’re in a brokerage, you will always be in competition with all of the other agents in the office. On a team, you’ll work in collaboration with others to satisfy your clients’ needs. A team can also offer systems and processes they’ve built to serve the customers better.

  • A team can offer you a sense of accountability. They’ll provide leads, but it shouldn’t be your only source of income. Spend time using the skills your team helps you build finding other client leads. More referrals mean more business for the team. You’ll also be accountable to your team, which instills a sense of duty to them.

  • Don’t miss out on networking events because you believe they’re recruiting opportunities for other teams or brokerages. Networking events are meant for you to build relationships with others in your field and potentially help one another along the way.

Don’t miss this episode as we highlight how being part of a team can benefit your business and why a solo career is the wrong way to go for most real estate agents.
